How to Choose the Right Mounted Faucet for your Vessel Sinks

Vessel sinks are gaining popularity not only for their beauty, but also for their functionality and ability to make a small sink space look elegant.  The bowl-shaped sinks help to free up counter space that can be used for storing toiletries and other bathroom essentials.

Is there anything that you should know before buying wall mounted faucets or can you simply get the first one that catches your eye?  Read on and find out.

Colors and Finishes

Wall mounted faucets are excellent for freestanding basins because of their extended spout design.  They however would need its own valve and drain installation mounted on the wall.  The clearance must be adequate enough so that it does not affect the functionality and prevent water from splashing all over your countertop and floor.

Aside from this initial considerations, you also need to take into account the color and finish so that it can match not only with the vessel sink, but also the overall ambience and design of your bathroom.

The most common options available for colors are:
  • Brass
  • Black
  • Bronze
  • Copper
  • Chrome
  • Iron
  • Gold
  • Nickel
  • Stainless steel
Many prefer spot-resistant faucet finishes because they are easier to clean.  Other types of faucets have combination finishes like brass and chrome, which offer unique appeal.  This is also a cost-effective choice to implement beautiful changes to your bathroom.

Type of Construction

When I implemented this with help from Murrieta plumbing company, I realize in the heart of every faucet is a mechanism designed to efficient control the flow of water from the source to the spout.  The type of construction along with the quality of the materials used will dictate the durability and reliability of the faucet.

Did you know that not every faucet has a washer?  Or some are constructed to be corrosion resistant?  Common types of faucets are:

Compression Valves – these are common and allows water to flow through with the help of the stem the rises and falls to open or close it.

Ball Faucets – the water is regulated by a rotating plastic or metal ball that will eventually wear out over time.  However, with a single moving part, the possibility of malfunction is extremely minimal.
Ceramic Disc – the discs allow or block water flow. The design allows the discs to be nearly flat to create a watertight seal; it is almost maintenance-free.

Cartridge Faucets –the cylindrical cartridge with a rubber O-ring inside controls water flow.  Brass cartridge types are extremely reliable.

Type of Control

Aside from the internal mechanism of the faucet, it is also important to decide on the type of control it has.  Some of the more common types of control options you can find in the market are:
  • Cross Handles – these feature the “X” design handle that comes in different finishes that allows for easy matching to the decoration of the room.
  • Lever – this is the common control that allows you to turn the handle to allow or stop water flow.  These are easier to grip and operate.
  • Joystick – it is designed almost like the lever control but allows for wider motion and a distinct look.
  • Push Button – a single push activates the internal mechanism to open or close water flow.
  • Knobs – the function is similar to the cross handles but comes in different style.
  • Motion Activated – these are state-of-the-art faucets that rely on sensors instead of control knobs or levers. Water flow is activated once the hands are placed under the spout. Some variants offer manual override for better temperature control.
  • Touch Activated – simply tapping the top part of the faucet activates the mechanism for water flow while water temperature is controlled manually.
Never sacrifice the functionality of your wall mounted faucet for its beauty. Take into consideration all of these criteria to buy the right one for your vessel sinks.
